What We Do

Education Sector Program

The purpose of the Education Program is to improve access to education by children from pastoralist communities through the use of technology, skills empowerment and infrastructure development.
Implementation strategy: Working closely with the community, community, County and National Government institutions to improve the learning environment in schools.
Because of our work, tens of thousands of children are able to attend these schools in various regions of Somalia.

Key Result Areas
Result 1: Improved alternative learning pathways for out of school children through technical vocational education and training
Achievements made so far:
  • Supported the establishment of a youth vocational training center in Wajir County
  • Provided income generating start up grants to youths graduating from the centre
Result 2: Increased literacy and numeracy skills amongst learners through the use of technology in schools
Achievements made so far:
  • Provision of over 5,000 solar powered tablets to schools in Garissa and Mandera Counties in partnership with HP
  • Trained teachers and students on the use of the solar powered tablets with a key focus on increased literacy and numeracy skills
Result 3: Enhanced relationship between community and schools to increase learning outcomes of learners
Achievements made so far:
  • During the COVID-19 pandemic, engaged communities to support schools in holding catch up classes

The ARDI Primary Focus

ARDI opened its Kenya office in 2018 following the registration by the NGO Board of Kenya as a national Non Governmental Organization. Over the years, the organization has built the capacity of community leaders and residents to resolve conflict and to address the underlying barriers to growth and stability of the region.
